St Lawrence Children’s Home based in Krugersdorp, South Africa, currently accommodates 27 children,
aged between 9 months and 23 years, on a permanent basis. The general intake of children varies from
time to time as the SAPS Child Protection Unit also places emergency cases with the home.
The home is extremely proud of their children, most of whom complete every school year with academic
and/or sporting awards.
St Lawrence Children’s Home was founded in January 2001 under the auspices of the Roodepoort Child
and Family Welfare Society, and over the past 24 years has assisted in excess of 2 500 children. The home
does not receive any subsidies and relies totally on fundraising and the generosity of the community. Some
children stay for a few days and others for 18 years.
For the second year in a row, Protea Broadcast and Multimedia, a division of Protea Electronics (Pty) Ltd, donated
a laptop to St Lawrence Children’s home, The laptops are used for daily homework, research, typing and printing
projects and educating the children in Information Technology.
